# Nutrition MCP
> A free, open-source remote MCP (Model Context Protocol) server for personal nutrition tracking. It lets AI assistants like Claude and ChatGPT log meals, macros, water, and body weight, review nutrition history, and import an existing food diary from another app — entirely through conversation, with no separate app. Connect it at https://nutrition-mcp.com/mcp.
Nutrition MCP is built as an MCP server from the ground up, so tracking lives inside the AI assistant you already use. You describe a meal in plain language, send a photo, or scan a barcode, and your AI estimates the calories and macros and logs them. Barcode data comes from Open Food Facts. Fiber, total sugars (total, not added sugar) and caffeine are tracked alongside protein, carbs and fat, with daily goals for each — calories, protein, carbs, fat and fiber are targets to reach, sugar and caffeine are limits to stay under. Caffeine is recorded in milligrams, the unit every label and guideline uses, and it adds no calories. Alcohol tracking is off by default: switch it on and alcohol is recorded in grams of pure ethanol, shown as US standard drinks or UK units, with its own daily limit. There is still no micronutrient tracking — no sodium, no vitamins. It is free with no premium tier, ads, or paywalled features; you own your data and can move it in either direction — import a CSV from another app, export every meal to CSV, or delete your account at any time. Licensed MIT and self-hostable.
Data can also come in. `start_meal_import` opens an importer inside the chat (in clients that support in-chat panels): you pick a CSV you exported from another nutrition app, map its columns, check what will be added, and confirm. The file is parsed in the browser, so the AI never transcribes the rows.
