# Artgen
> Artgen (artgen.net) is a multilingual website for making images in 36 visual styles: 24 2D styles and 12 3D-look styles. You can create an image from a text prompt with AI, or restyle an uploaded image. Six styles (pixel, ASCII, cyanotype, risograph, pop art and pointillism) also have free fixed effects that run a deterministic algorithm instead of AI. AI generation uses credits. All styles output flat images; the 3D styles do not produce 3D model files.
## Key facts
- Styles: 36 in total (24 2D, 12 3D-look). Browse them in the [style gallery](https://artgen.net/en/styles).
- Two ways to start: [Create](https://artgen.net/en/create) makes an image from a text prompt with AI; [Convert](https://artgen.net/en/convert) restyles an uploaded image.
- Free fixed effects (6 styles): pixel, ASCII, cyanotype, risograph, pop art and pointillism. They need sign-in and an image, but no prompt, AI model or credits. The same image and settings give the same result. For these six styles you can also switch to AI reimagining, which uses credits.
- ASCII output: the fixed ASCII converter produces real, editable characters. You can copy the text or download it as TXT, along with a matching PNG. You can adjust the column count (24–85) and invert brightness. The separate AI ASCII tool first generates an image with AI (uses credits) and then converts it to text for free. It turns pictures into character grids. Typed banners use the separate text-to-ASCII page. ASCII-to-image and copy-and-paste drawings also run in the browser.
- Uploads for fixed effects: PNG, JPEG or WebP up to 5 MiB. Images are resized to at most 512 px on the longest edge, and transparent areas become white.
- Processing: fixed effects run on Artgen's own server. AI requests go to the selected AI model provider. Generation and style-transfer preview history lasts only for the current session, so download those results before leaving or refreshing.
