The runtime is open source (MIT) and runs in encrypted Vellum Cloud or locally on your own machine; your data stays plain-text, exportable, and deletable. Install on macOS/Linux with `curl -fsSL https://www.vellum.ai/install.sh | bash && . ~/.config/vellum/env`.
